Inquest Solicitors

We appreciate that if you have suffered the distress and trauma of losing a loved one, you can never be adequately compensated for your loss. However, the experience and skills of our solicitors can help you handle some of the practical consequences of bereavement, such as the inquest process.

An inquest is an investigation into the cause of a death which was sudden, violent, or if the person died in custody. Inquests are held by a coroner, who will examine the evidence and may question witnesses. Family members can attend the inquest.

Client feedback for our Personal Injury Team…

Fatal accidents

If a loved one has been involved in a fatal accident caused by someone else, such as a road traffic accident, medical negligence or an accident at work, surviving dependants may be able to make a compensation claim. The right to make a claim applies to spouses, civil partners, partners who have cohabited for over two years, children and parents of victims who were under 18 years old.

Following the accident, there is usually a three-year time limit to make a compensation claim. When this time limit starts is dependent on the circumstances of the accident, such as when you became aware that the injuries from the accident caused the death of your loved one.

How our solicitors can support bereaved families and assist with inquest representation

At Nelsons, we have a team of specialist solicitors with extensive experience in providing inquest representation to bereaved families. Here are some of the cases in which our team has supported bereaved families during inquests:

Our team will ask questions of witnesses that family members need to have answered. We will be able to advise you on the information obtained at the inquest and whether there are grounds for bringing a claim for compensation.

The team is recommended by the independently researched publications, The Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, as one of the top teams of specialists in the country. We are also members of the Law Society Personal Injury Panel – a specialist qualification held by experienced personal injury solicitors – and work with a number of local and nationwide charitable organisations.

Please contact us to discuss how our specialist solicitors in Derby, Leicester and Nottingham might be able to act on your behalf at an inquest.

We are always available to discuss the circumstances of a claim either over the phone, via email or where appropriate at a meeting.
